Serenity Now!

Every girl needs a little serenity, NOW! Yesterday was not the day for that around here. I worked all day. Mind you I do some work with psych patients and that can get a little crazy at times. Anyway, yesterday's work was intense. Peter called to say there were some problems with the wood burning stove instillation. Could I hurry home to help with the kids? So, I arrive. Peter heads up to the attic and our friend/contractor Tom goes to the roof. I assess the super dusty, messing, snack covered house and say "hi" to the kiddos. Peter calls, "Melanie, Lillian come help the chickens!" I dash out in my cute work clothes with G on my hip because his shoes are no where to be found. Lillian runs behind. Peter says, "A hawk is after the chickens. Get them in the pen." So, we race to the back yard. Two chickens are missing. So, we go on a chicken hunt. I ask a neighbor in the alley behind whom I have never seen before. "Have you seen a black fluffy chicken?" "Umm, No" At this point I am thinking- What in the world? That poor girl thinks I am a freak show. We live in St. Louis city. So, an hour or so later both chickens had be found by Peter and/or Tom. I read the kids a book and put them to bed. And we ordered pizza. It was the kind of night that you just don't cook. So, here are a few photos of our life, including the huge hole in the living room which will hopefully be a beautiful wood burning stove in about a week. If you think kids keep you on your toes, try living with Peter. Chickens and woodburning stoves- Serenity Now! (Seriously, I love the "crazy" ideas he comes up with and I am really excited about the woodburning stove.)
