A Moment in Time...

Our Grayson turned three, today! He seemed older from the 5 a.m. start of the day, when we woke up to thunderstorms. We had a great worship service and a fun lunch with Hap and SaaSaa. Then it was off to nap and get ready for the big fire truck birthday party. I baked and Peter made the cake. We made the fire station with trucks and firemen. We even included a hose to put out the "fire" on top of the cupcake. It turned out pretty cute.

Our guests arrived and it was lots of fun with everyone eating and the kids running around. Grayson seemed to have a wonderful time with his friends. Peter had stopped by the fire department shortly before the party to ask if they could stop by. They were going on a run and said they would try. We didn't have a whole lot of hope. So, we did gifts. Grayson got lots of fun new things.

We all sang happy birthday and G blew out the "fire" with his cool new shades on. At that moment, someone yelled that the fire truck was pulling up in front of the house. We all ran outside. I really believe that all parties both adult and kid were equally excited. We really didn't think they would come. Some of the neighbors came out to see what was going on.

All of the kids got a chance to sit in the fire truck. We took a picture with everyone at the party and the firemen. Then, the firemen asked Grayson if he would like to sit in the truck and blow the horn. He did and it was awesome! After they left and we all came in for cake and ice cream, several of us admitted to being choked up when the fire truck arrived. It was this wonderful moment in time and the joy/amazement on the children's faces was glorious. I mean in Grayson's world, the fire truck is about the coolest thing ever and it came to our house. As we were walking back in the house, Grayson looked at me and said, "That was really cool!"

Peter and I see birthday parties as an opportunity to lavishly express our love for our children. Not in money as much as in showing our joy in and for them and providing them joy. Peter and I agreed that this will live in our minds and probably Grayson's as joyous moment in time.

Happy Birthday Grayson! Mel, that is just the coolest birthday party ever! I'm really impressed! I'd have never thought about inviting the Fire Dept! So was the T-shirt "Future firefighter" a gift or from the Fire dept?

Peter had made a donation to the FD and received that t-shirt a couple of months ago.
