Blizzard of Death 2011

The St. Louis news has us all thinking that if we see the weekend it will be a miracle. I grew up in hurricane country, so I tend to have a "it can't be that bad" kind of attitude. It seems unlikely that we can't survive a few days even if we didn't go to the store. I didn't watch the news, but rather listened to the scores of people discussing what was going to happen. So, this morning I woke up to a slightly sick little girl, 12 loads of laundry and a fairly empty fridge. Peter took G to school. Lillian and I loaded all the laundry up and washed it in two hours at the washateria. Love that place. My friend Andrea said she was coming to my place should the power really go out so I might want some food. We have a wood burning stove and a gas stove in the kitchen. I'm thinking we are the friends to have in this situation plus the 4 wheel drive truck. I know Andrea will bring a ton of food over, but I didn't want to be rude. Lillian and I headed to Target about noon after it started raining what appeared to be a slushy. Apparently, all of St. Louis went to Target yesterday to stock up. We had the place to ourselves. They had everything on my list and then some. We picked up some yummy food, cards and dominos. Nothing says Blizzard of Death like some games. We finished just in time to pick up G from school when it closed early. Peter has stacked a ton of wood in the house so we can keep the fire going. He has salted everything and fortified the addition. I'm feeling overly prepared and reading a book from the library I went to after school closed.

It does sound like we may get some intense weather, but I doubt we will die. I suspect it will be like many times growing up when the power would go out and we would play games, cook on the camp stove and help people out. It will be bonding and it will be a good memory and it will build community and it will remind us that we have a crazy awesome God who is stronger than any storm coming my way. We will keep you posted as long as we have power.

It is amazing how a little weather seems like the end of the world in this city!

Ok- after reading this I'm REALLY hoping our power goes out. And yes, I will bring tons of food, 'cause that's how I roll.

We went to the library after school too, and, don't be jealous, but we are currently in posession of "Space Chimps" and "Hot Tub Time Machine". I also went to the store, and Hobby Lobby and Target. It is on like Donkey Kong.

Hilarious - we went to the public library after school, too! Wish we had your wood burning stove, though. Maybe you'll find us on your front porch alongside Andrea.
