Life lessons

My sister, Melissa, came in for the weekend to help celebrate Lillian's birthday. We had a great time all weekend. Today was sort of our day. Lillian was at school and Grayson was in a mother's day out program. We decided to do a little makeover on ourselves. Update for the new season. As all fashion plates do, we hit Target and the Schlarshop for some new clothes. After we put the kids down for naps, we decided to color and highlight my hair. We have a long history of coloring our hair together. Melissa has moved up to salon colors since she now works in one. I figured why pay all that money when we can do it ourselves. The color turned out great and it covered all those nasty gray hairs. We were feeling good and decided to do the highlights. Melissa did say that she had never done this before and she had no idea what she was doing. However, the girl on the seven dollar box looked great and I was having visions of my new fall lowlights. The fifteen minutes it was supposed to take somehow turned into an hour. The fact that both kids got up and were running around may have had something to do with it, but I'm not sure. We wanted it to be perfect with the lowlights perfectly placed. The hour thing may have been our downfall. When I got through washing my hair out, I looked exactly like a skunk that had be dipped in orange kool-aid. Without the two short knockers I always have in tow you would have been hard pressed to tell us apart. Melissa quickly asked if I was going to cry and then burst out laughing. And so did I. I mean really tears should be saved for bigger things and this was pretty hilarous. After considering me wearing my hair in a ponytail with a baseball cap for the next six months or cutting all my hair off, we decided it would have to be colored again. Of course, she had to go to the airport by then. I have now colored my hair for the third time, today. I look much less like a skunk than a few hours ago. I am hoping that Peter agrees, when he arrives home from work having missed all of the fun. Life lesson number 476: Get highlights done professionally. In the end, it will probably be cheaper, but not nearly as much fun.

I have been there and done that with HORRIBLE results...$100 later and hours at the salon finally restored my hair to it's natural color...I guess it's a rite of passage for all brunettes!

I did not know that "golden" in the name of a hair color meant it would have red in it. I know now but had to spend a while at the beauty parlor getting them to get out as much as possible.
